Bradley Center - not again...

Word has it that the Bucks are looking for a new arena to be built. Apparently if they don't get a new one, they will look elsewhere. Let them go - if the Bradley Center isn't good enough for them then we don't need them. Heck, I'd rather go watch them play in the Milwaukee Arena - has it been so long that they don't remember what it was like to play there? The atmosphere was electric - sure, there's not enough bathrooms and the hallways are much too small, but it was a very enjoyable place to watch a game. Public money? In a time when the County Parks Department is continually making cuts and the Park System is decaying we don't need to spend public dollars to keep a professional basketball team here. Perhaps more people will attend the UWM and Marquette games which are more fun anyway.

The hot stove league

Well, my previous post seems pretty obsolete as Lyle Overbay has been traded. Did the Crew get enough for such a high quality and consistent major league first baseman? You've got to give the benefit of the doubt to the Brewers' front office after all the great deals they have done in the last 2 years, but this one doesn't look very good on the surface. Is Prince Fielder able to replace Overbay? Will the Crew take a step backwards on the field this year? Or will Prince live up to the hype? Will Ricky Weeks be able to step it up defensively? What is up with the Danny Kolb for Wes Obermueller trade? Apparenlty it is just to get a few extra days to try to convice Kolb to re-sign with us after we cut him... Hmmm, that sounds like a bad trade to me - the Braves would have cut him anyway.

Lots of things going on with the course-casting project, but nothing ready yet to share... There will soon be a very early beta version available online. Keep checking this report for the link.

Lab Mods - we finished a request for the theater and for 201 today - now it's a waiting game to see if we will be able to contract out, or if we'll do the work in-house. After talking to the rep at SP Controls, I am excited about the new more advanced Pixie unit.

Also, keep your eyes posted for announcements of the spring guest lecturers for the Poetry, Literature Lecture Series and the new Fiction Series. Also, the dates for the book discussion will be posted by the end of the week.

Holiday season

Well, the holiday season is coming up soon. I can't believe there is less than two weeks left to the semester before finals. This has been a really fast semester. Busy, but fast. This holiday season we're going to be donating money to organizations such as the literacy centerl the Domes and the humane society. Most people probably already have many of the things they would want anyway, so this is a good way to make them feel good and put the money to good use.

The Panthers are on TV tonight. It's nice to have them back playing again, although the dark sports days of the new year will be coming soon when football is over and the baseball season isn't started yet. I wish the Bucks could be exciting to follow like they were back in the Brian Winters, Junior Bridgeman era, I just can't get into the NBA. I'll give them a shot, like I always do, but it's not interesting enough.

This has been the earliest and coldest winter that I can remember - perhaps that means it will be over sooner than usual! I'm already looking forward to spring, although I hope to get at least one winter camping event in this year.

That's all for now!
