Winter Vacation

Is it really a vacation between semesters? I don't think so. It seems that the mid-term projects take up so much time and energy that the vacation periods are almost more stressful than the regular semester. This break our biggest lecture hall lost all AV controls and we luckily were able to figure out exactly what component failed, but that was a close one. We converted a DE compressed video room to a smart classroom, and we replaced all the Crestron controls with the Pixie unit from an earlier post and it was highly successful. In fact, it was so successful that I think we can start replacing all our 'home-grown' AV carts with Pixie controlled carts. However, the biggest project over the break (besides doing all the normal things like getting reserves ready) was the final preparations for the Coursecasting project. We're all set to go. The IT staff really put in a lot of hard work and did a great job getting everything put together. I think it will be a real success. So, here we are, a few days away from a new semester - let's hope it is another good one.

On a much more somber note, our first fieldworker that we ever had in our library was killed in a car crash this week. Jody Waldhart was a wonderful person, a caring mother and an excellent librarian. We are all very saddened about this tragic accident. I am so glad I was able to work with Jody for the semester that I did and am glad that we kept in touch even after she finished working with me, as she worked towards passing her comps. My thoughts go out to her family as they try to recover and somehow move on.

Thinking of you Jody...
